Chris is a Wisconsin native currently residing in Chicago, but for a period of time Chris called the Quad Cities his home. Towards the end of his stay in the QC, Chris was a part of the Sound and Vision Collective in Moline, Il. While there he honed his craft of folk music, creating his own voice while calling on wisdom from the greats. He'll heal your troubled soul with the sweet sounds of his gravelly voiced lullabies. This tape is a collection of songs he recorded during his time at Sound and Vision.
Check out this video of Chris performing with Melinda Menner at Tommy's Open Mic in Moline, IL.

Teenage is the name for the songs of Quad City musician and espresso aficionado Jamie Warren. With a style and swagger all his own Jamie performs these songs sometimes all alone or more often than not with a backing band comprised of other members of the Sound and Vision Collective. The songs range in mood from soft hush-sung lullabies to full out rockers. It's catchy, it's genuine, and the melodies will no doubt get stuck in your head.
This is a free six song demo. The first three songs were recorded at Sound and Vision Recording Studio in Moline. They feature Ray Malone playing drums on tracks one and two and Aiden Landman playing keys on track three. The later part of the EP is from a live recording made during a performance at the Rock Island based night cafe Rozz Tox.
Check out this live video made by Deep Cuts own Jon Burns. Featuring Ian Lambach on second guitar.

Download: Centaur Noir vs. Donnie Bobb "Radar Lust"
Deep Cuts presents another installation in their collaboration series with Centaur Noir vs. Donnie Bobb's "Radar Lust." Centaur Noir is the electronic one man band project from Meth and Goats vocalist Jon Burns. Donnie Bobb is a battle-tested veteran of the Quad Cities music scene. In the 90's he sang and played guitar in The Adaptors (the band whose other members went on to form the band Driver of The Year). After The Adaptors Donnie continued to write songs and for a time played under the name The Vow and now as a member of the up-and-coming band Break Up Art.
During the recording of Radar Lust neither Burns nor Bobb occupied the same space. Each song started with a basic idea then grew into full songs as the tracks were sent back and forth from one another. Burns would come up with a beat and/or synth part then send the tracks to Bobb who would then come up with his own additions and vice versa. For the track entitled "Tragedy" Burns took the lyrics Donnie had written for an earlier song (Animal Ballons) and transposed them to the new and more "hip hop" sounding song. Check out the videos below for the songs "Radar Lust" and "Animal Ballons" and then download the EP for free!

2011 marks the release of the full length album "Leisure Time" from midwest noise rockers Meth and Goats. Recorded live at Sound and Vision Studios except for Jon Burns' vocals it comes across raw like watching them in a mold filled sweaty unfinished basement with a busted p.a. connected to speakers that were ready to burst into flames leaving your pores filled with soot and grime. Which seemed to be their natural enviroment touring the east coast and the deep south in the mid 2000's. Check out the title track and the new video for "Filled up on Candies" below.

Check out this video from our friend Chris Colson a Milwaukee native that recently relocated to the Quad Cites. He was found wandering up and down the Mississippi River howling songs about injustice and heart break until he found like minded folks. This video was filmed at 4:30 in the morning by the talented people over at hearnebraska.org and keep your eyes peeled for a Chris Colson recording from Deep Cuts in the near future.

Brand new material from Jon Burns' project Centaur Noir. "Let's Start A War" is an eight song E.P. of electrofolk bliss with sounds ranging from post punk, indie, folk, all the way around to pop, R&B, and hip hop. This conceptual E.P. tells tales of war with stories of corporate greed, casualties, and overseas conflicts.

The music of American Dust lies somewhere between lofi, folk, slowcore, electronic, and trance. American Dust is a music project that revolves around the songwriting of Johnnie Cluney. The music on AM Dust is a soundtrack for an early morning, rainy afternoon, or a lonesome evening. The "band" was formed in early 2011. The "unofficial debut" AM Dust is a collection of songs written and recorded between 2006-2008. The songs were recorded from home on and off with only a handful of musicians and friends.

Alex has been serving us his own brand of dark synth pop around Iowa City for a couple years now. Recently taking Body across the country to the east coast infecting jaded ears with his burnt Casio soundscapes, cassette drum loops and honest lyrics. Don't pass Body off as a noise act, there are great songs and melodies inside these blasted triangle waves and eaten up tape fragments. Expect a new release from Body on Night People Records this fall. In the meantime download my favorite song from "Just Say Yes" Distorted Hallway.

Man Eats Bear come from the historic Iowa town of Sioux City. A city known for it's gruff exterior and sheer rock and roll brutality. Man Eats Bear continues the tradition of great Sioux City musicians. Their sound has a definite 90's vibe to it. Two guitar rock and roll with lots of fuzz and reverb. Steady grooves and catchy hooks make them definitely a toe tapping - head bopping type of band. Check out their full length album "Let's All Lie Together" recorded by deep cuts very own Ray Malone at Sound and Vision Studios in Moline Illinois. The album is available to download for free off of their facebook page. So go check it out! In the meantime here is a sample of one of the cuts from the release called "Smell on Wheels."

Sound Visionaries is a name given to the collective works of members of Sound and Vision Recording Studio. In this particular instance it is a name given to a loose based collaborative songwriting project. An initial two instrument recording was made as a backbone for the song and then a barrage of overdubs are added as the song begins to take shape. RC Cola 2 is a ten minute plus jammer of groovin' night rock for you to stream or download.

Recorded at Sound and Vision studios in Moline this album features a variety of song writing techniques with the common thread being that one person would come up with the original idea for the song and then each person would take turns adding different instruments layering sounds until the pieces were done.

Centaur Noir is the musical brain-child of Moline native and Meth and Goats vocalist Jon Burns. "Rock The Hall," the debut album is 14 songs of folk, indie, and electronics. This album spotlights some of Centaur Noir's earlier material. They're folky songs about friendships and road trips.

Burns played and recorded most of the album with help from Ray Malone in the recording and mastering process. Malone also has guest spots on the album along with other Sound and Vision members Dennis Hockaday, Talbot Borders, and Chad Gooch.

Lord Green's "Last Demo" isn't the end of the bands reign as kings of Quad Cities punk rock. It is however the final chapter in a series of self released demo tapes... These eight songs of blistering punk rock show Lord Green somewhat expanding their punk palette into the realm of sludge, rock, and more metal. It's thrasy, it's loud, and you will love it. Tracks 1-5 were recorded by Ray Malone at Sound and Vision. Tracks 6-8 were recorded by Mitch Pilon at The House.
So.... whats next for Lord Green? A seven inch record? Writing songs for the full length? Going out on the road? All signs point to yes! They no doubt will be out in full force this summer thrashing basements, back porches, and skateparks alike. To see their show listing and info on other releases check in on the Lord Green Myspace.
